Arm's Length

You spread into me
And re appeal to me
Just as easily
As you butter me up
And it sends me reeling
That I can’t leave anything
Alone when it comes to you
Even when I’m seething
Always conceding
That I’m wrong
And when you butter me up
We’ll fall apart
And all of it leaves me trembling
And all of it keeps my hair
Elevated at arm’s length
For all is thrown out
The already opened window
When you butter me up
When you butter me up
We’ll fall apart
Oh yeah you butter me up
Ahhh-up, Ahhh-up
Ahhh-up, Ahhh-up

Jane Doe

All of this time
And I never would have seen that
You would never know my name
It pains me to say
And I know it’s not okay
But some things are better left unchanged
And all of these days
Where I sit and reminisce
About a world devoid of absent minds
It comes and it goes
But it always does show
That I feel my presence is declined
Does the story end
Or is this another bend
On the road to something better than this
I’ve come to terms
With the mitigating burns
Putting myself somewhere hard to miss
Thinking when I’ve tried
To leave some of me behind
Is a process I would rather forego
I know that they’ll ask
And if you’re up for the task
Tell them that I’m just another John Doe
As the evening begins
I prepare myself
Disappointment and guilt
Is what I expect
Now I’m tired of waiting
For a sign from you
So I’m begging you now
Help me see this through
Will it always be this way
Will it always be the same
Will it always be this way
And so I’m asking you now
If please would you stay
